The Team

Sonya Jampolsky: producer, writer, director

Sonya has created and sold content that’s been seen around the world. She’s made everything from promotional videos to documentaries to true crime series. Her clients include CBC, HGTV, DIY Network, OWN, History TV, and  the Discovery Network.

Having lived Southern Africa and South East Asia, diversity and inclusion are a priority for Sonya. A graduate of Carleton University’s school of journalism, she also has a MFA in creative non-fiction from the University of King’s College.

Margaret MacQuarrie: writer

Back in 1988, Margaret started her career in advertising—an industry that required her to find the single most important point to make about a client, to say it in 30 seconds or less in a way that caught the target market’s attention, and to drive to a call to action. When she eventually started her own company (Wordperson Inc), which specializes in corporate and government communications, she took that skill with her. Today her clients count on her to deliver clear, simple, effective messages.

Margaret’s clients have included the Nova Scotia Government, Holland College, Yukon Tourism, McDonald’s, Irving Oil, Aliant, and Atlantic Lottery Corporation. She holds an MFA in creative non-fiction from University of King’s College and her personal essays have been published in the Globe and Mail.

Israel Ekanem: director, camera, audio

Israel Ekanem is a Nigerian-born award-winning storyteller. At a young age, he was introduced to the art of storytelling by his grandmother, and it quickly became his passion. His IMDb page lists 22 writing and directing credits, including the award-winning Drown the Lovers and Dearg—an impressive number given that he’s only making films since 2016. His films have been shown both internationally and locally, most recently at the Atlantic International Film Festival. Israel believes that a story properly told can change the world, one person at a time.
